Not many people know this…but I tried this experiment lately. I decided instead of just throwing the towel in before I attempted to do something, I would actually put the effort in, and just go ahead and try it.
This experiment was called
Try gaining admission to an Ivy League School.
More specifically, Columbia University.
Now back in the day when I did try and gain admission to a good level school, I got into Boston University, which at the time was kind of a big deal for someone like myself, whose effort was minimal at best. I definitely did not have bad grades or anything. I just wasn’t challenged, nor did I particularly care in high school. Yes I took the honors and AP level courses. But I still wasn’t at the top of my class or anything.
So I had my surgeries and went to Framingham State, because I could afford it. I burnt out after a year, and that was that.
I moved to NY shortly thereafter.
And then this past May I decided to try for the June 1st deadline. I sent it in on June 1st.
…and then I did the test. and I did well on the test, since the woman who interviewed me told me I did.
But since I am unaware of how I interview..I was not sure how I did on that. And she told me they interview candidates who are questionable, and admit 30-40% of the total.
So the interview was not a good thing I realized.
Until she called me yesterday and left a message saying she had good news. I tried to call her back. No answer.
But she got me this morning.
and I got in.!!!!!!!
“We would like to formally welcome you to the Fall 2007 session at Columbia University”.
Thanks, Francine! I couldn’t have done it without you!!!!
Now I just have to figure out how to pay for $1,086 a credit. 🙁

Oh My God!! Go you! 😀
What are you going to study?

thanks you
Creative writing…and then I will focus in on journalism. My dream is to write for a small town newspaper so I can live in peace and nature.
And write a book or ten.
😉

Re: thanks you
Sounds like a good dream. 🙂 God knows your writing skills (what I’ve seen) are damn good already.
Do you think you’ll try out for the student newspaper?

Re: thanks you
Of course. I am all gay and gung-ho about this since I don’t care what anyone thinks of me–my age has given me some wisdom about things like participation.
I just went through the whole acceptance folder which they Fed-exed to me…I am really excited and won’t send in the stuff at the last possible moment like I had been doing.
Honestly, I am slightly baffled. But serene.

Re: thanks you
And I’m sure your wisdom will give your contributions a flavor no green fresh out of high school undergrad could conjure. 🙂
I’m VERY happy for you! Hell, if anyone deserves this chance, it’s you – make the most of it!

Re: thanks you
Yes, one could only hope.
But I expect to learn from everyone I encounter, green or not.
🙂
Spanks, again!

Holy Fucking Shit. Congrats! I couldn’t have done it…not in High School and not now, lol.

$$$$
Tell me about it. I just need to figure out how to get the good ones and earn the scholarships to take care of next year.
I would prefer not to have to graduate with $120,000 in debt like the average Columbia graduate could be responsible for of course.
The ultimate goal is to finish within a reasonable time…I have already been waiting around in the ten year line to start…
Thank you for the congratulations. I am still in a bit of shock…;)

Re: Holy Crap!
The little ones are adorable as always and getting big as always. The boy will be turning 2 in a month and a half. Andi just started her second semester of Ballet. The boy might take a dance class in the fall too, ’causes he loooves to dance.
Except for some big car troubles (which translated to financial ones) we are doing well. I’m doing my best to get out w/ the kids whenever the weather is bearable, and we’ve been going upstate a lot. At the moment we’re getting excited about my Big Birthday Bash at Coney Island on Sat. We’re gonna hang out at the beach, ride some rides (while they’re still standing) and finish it off w/ an Inferno show by the boardwalk. You’re welcome to join us! Hopefully the weather wont take a crap on our plans.
